Are these changes the "new normal"?

Are Razorbill changes in the last few years a natural cyclical recurring fluctuation which we have seen in past decades? Or do they represent a more fundamental break with the past? Will Razorbills bounce-back to their normal pre-2011 winter distribution patterns? What will Razorbills and other alcids do this winter 2013??

Looking at the data

We look for multiple decades of Razorbill data, especially in the Audubon CBCs Christmas Bird Counts along the east coast of the USA in late December. We want to see how Razorbill numbers have varied over the last 50-100 years, at key locations along the coast. Already we have found several CBC counts which have shown striking jumps in recent years... in 2011 down to North Carolina and in 2012 down to Florida and beyond.
